Route: Cluj-Napoca – Băişorii Mountain Resort – Scăriţa Belioara
Duration: 8-9 hours (on foot)
Nature lovers, thirsty for fresh air and mountain cures as well as for those who know that mountains vindicate everything, can escape from urban bustle. Only a short distance from Cluj-Napoca, lies the Băişorii Mountain resort, an existential center for all the beautiful wanderings that you sometimes feel the need for. From there, choose a direction and start. The road will not disappoint you, it has never done so…
This time, after a short trip on four wheels, from the city to the resort (between 1h – 1h30), we headed towards the Scăriţa – Belioara nature reserve. I have seen in recent years a few photos of the reserve: cliffs and breathtaking views!
Stepping alertly, the route made my the lungs feel oppressed, being too intoxicated by urban air. However, with every breath, with every step, your thoughts are rinsed. You feel closer to heaven, to yourself, to others.
Scărița – Belioara is a geo-botanical reserve in the massive Muntele Mare with mountain peaks that leaves you staring at the scenery, numerous caves, a limestone plateau situated at over 1,350m altitude (the Șesul Craiului reserve), spectacular cliffs and sharp rocks, all coming together in harmony and tranquility which impresses the traveler.
The Scăriţa Belioara reserve houses numerous rare and protected plant species, some unique in Europe: sweet pea, mountain avens, heather, columbine, gentiana, buzata, and variegated lily. Also, there are specific endemic plants such as massive beard bud, yellow flowers and bear grapes (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi), a glacial relic which reached this territory from the Balkan Peninsula.
Here the wind beats strongly, you can enjoy priceless moments in the heart of nature. The reserve encompasses a stretch of 47.7 ha, the Șesul Craiului limestone plateau (1350m altitude), the forest on Mount Scărița and slopes that surround the Belioara Valley, a tributary of Poşăgii Valley.
Leave your thoughts and worries at home and venture out into the world. A wonderful world which is just two steps from Cluj!
We would like to thank TerraMont Carpați for the hike ?
