III. Route Description
Located two steps…further from Cluj, Vadu Crisului Cave (also called Zichy Cave) is located in the Pădurea Craiului Mountains, on the banks of the Crişul Repede, 3 km from Şuncuiuş and Vadu Crisului. The easiest way to arrive is by train, the cave being is just 300m away from CFR Peștera Station. Incidentally, this is also how the cave was discovered in 1903: because of the nearby railroad.
The cave’s tourist route covers a length of approx. 600m (the total length of the cave almost 3km), being equipped with ladders and bridges – so special equipment is not necessary. However, during the rainy season is recommended to wear rubber boots or other strong footwear.
The stream running through the underground gallery out of the cave and waterfall make up the Vadu Crisului Waterfall.
Being under the jurisdiction of Țării Crișurilor Museum in Oradea, the cave can be visited from Wednesday to Sunday, between the hours 9:00 to 5:00 p.m., with a guide provided. (contact guide: 0744.512926)
